About Us

Our Story

I grew up in the rural area of Kansas City. An avid animal lover even as a youngster. My parents encouraged this, and as a child I had a pony, dogs, and kittens. We had hogs and cows as well. One of my fondest memories as a child is getting to stay home from school and help with baby pigs born in the cold. We literally made a tent over an old propane oven, and my job was to tend to and warm those baby pigs.

As an adult with my own livestock, I have had chickens, ducks, and even calves in the house on occasion. This farming thing is in my blood; I am driven to do this, and it is sometimes hard to explain why I do what I do. I truly believe we should all know where our food comes from and seek out local sources whenever we can.

Pleasant Ridge Farms has also come to be all because of a barn. Seriously, I live in a barn. It was initially built in 1917. In the 1920s, it housed a Percheron Stallion that offered a live foal guarantee with a breeding fee of just $10.00; it was also known as a chicken farm in its day. The barn was converted to living quarters, and when I saw it, I fell in love.

The name Pleasant Ridge Farms dates back as early as 1932 from the history I have found on this old place. Pleasant Ridge Farms is a small and growing farm, focusing on growing delicious meat and produce sustainably.

My goal is also to raise animals with kindness and love, doing all I can to ensure they are happy, healthy, and have a life they were meant to have. Animals that are treated with respect and appreciation while they are here for all that they provide for myself and my farm families.
